How to calculate building sum insured

Advice from professional bodies such as RICS starts by quoting costs per square meters (psqm). With a national average of £1500psqm for most standard new build properties, but this can increase significantly (say 50%) for grade listing non standard construction such as thatched properties. So if your property is say 10m by 8m, and over two floors, then simply 10 x 8 x 2 = 160 Square meters. So the rebuild cost 160 x £1500psqm = £240,000. Then add at least 50% for non standard or grade listing so £360,000. If you are in any doubt then always seek the advice of either a surveyor or builder
